Dolin Stoneflare - 2nd Level Male Dwarf Light Cleric
Kethry - 2nd Level Female Human Wizard

1 June 981, Wednesday continued
Weather, nice, a few clouds, warm

The room is big and tall and the Basilisk is chained to the ceiling.  Akadum climbs up the chain and sees it is secured to strongly to he roof of the chamber.  The chamber is strewn with stone bats and spiders.

Kethry knows that Basilisk eyes and blood are valuable.  She tries using her Mage Hand to manipulate the dead thing, but it does not have fine enough control.  One of the eyes is wrecked.  Being more careful they manage to gather one eye and two vials of blood.  While they are working on the dead body they notice a key around the beasts neck, which they take.

During their work a group of five Fungal Goblins peers into the big room.  They look like the ones they saw outside and are verbally expressing amazement that the party has killed the Basilisk.  They ask if the party is going to eat the whole thing?  Perhaps they can have the tail?  Or some of the legs?  Kethry tells them they can have the tail and some of the legs if they provide a guide to the party.  The goblins huddle and one, called Kevin, agrees to act as their guide.  The goblins despite their crude tools make short work of the Basilisk taking the tail, carried by two of them, and two legs carried by one each.  Kethry casts an illusion of sparkling lights and such on Kevin telling him he is under a curse if does not do right by the party.

They begin to discuss with Kevin where they want to go.  They ask after the lizardman Xiximanter.  Kevin says they do not want to go there as some who go do not return.  A way out?  No problem.  Not that way, a corridor that noticeably slopes down, as it leads some place scary.  Other scary places?  Yes the big, deep pit.  OK, lets go there.

As the discussion ends another group of six Fungal Goblins show up at the other entrance and asks for more parts of the Basilisk.  They agree and the goblins take the other four legs, the heart, and the liver.

Kevin begins leading them towards the big, deep pit.  He passes through a strange corridor which is round and has ridges around it.  They note Kevin avoids stepping on the tops of the ridges.  Dolin chases after also avoiding the tops of the ridges, but Kevin stomps on the last ridge which causes a bunch of blades to swing down from the ceiling.  Dolin manages to mostly avoid the swinging blades, but is stuck unable to chase after Kevin who is fleeing away from the party.  Kethry and Valdell launch a fire bolt and an arrow and annihilate the fleeing Kevin.

Dolin notes the swinging blades are beginning to fall apart and as the trap falls into the corridor he manages to dive out of the way of falling debris.

They explore beyond and find a snake altar room and a room with two very detailed statues of snakemen with a door between them.  Akadum tries to smash the two statues, but finds them to be much harder than the others and he is only able to break off small pieces.  Dolin notes the stone of these statues is different from any of the other statues they have seen.  Akadum looks at the snake altar and notes that it rotates.  He pushes it one way and the room fills with gas that leaves him badly coughing.  He also notes two arm sized holes in the statue.  They gather the remains of Kevin and stick his arms into the altar, but nothing happens.  The altar is rotated the other way and a bunch of coins spill out.  It is mostly copper, with some silver and gold mixed in.  The coins feature the same unknown script on the medallions they found.  They gather the coins.

As they are gathering the coins, a figure is moving down the corridor at them.  It is very strange, a skeleton, but encased in what looks like orange jelly.  They attack it, but notice that it seems impervious to the damage they are able to do (piercing, bludgeoning, fire, radiant).  Akadum tears off one of its arms which still wriggles and crawls along the ground.  Dolin tries to Turn it, and it begins to flee.  Akadum knocks it prone and uses a dagger to pin to to the floor.  It continues to try to get away from Dolin, and they gather rubble from the broken trap and bury it.  Kethry is fascinated by the creature and its head is torn off, put into a sack, and carried away for further study.

They press on with Dr.Hoot exploring ahead.  He sees the giant pit which the duplicitious Kevin was supposedly leading them to.  It is deeper and wider than they can see.  They debate what to do.  They would like to find and finish off the Fungal Goblins and whatever Xiximanter might be, but they are resource depleted.  They either need to go out or find some place to hole up.

They head off down a side corridor, pass a room with a false floor covering a spiked pit trap, and find a room with two doors.  There is a set of manacles in the middle that are mildly magical.  As Akadum approaches them, they clamp around his feet.  He notes how rusted they are, and tears them off his feet.  Behind the other door they hear a steady hiss.  They decide to hole up here, Akadum wedges the doors closed, and they set watches for a long rest.

During the night they hear scratching at the door.  Valldel is on watch and wakes Akadum, but whatever it was passes on.  Later while Akadum is on watch he hears some talking and manages to catch something talking about "resetting the trap", but again they remain quiet and the danger passes on.

2 June 981, Thursday
Cool and cloudy

They awaken after a successful rest.  They realize that it is deep in the night.

They remove the wedges and follow the hissing.  They enter into a room with a domed ceiling with four ways out.  One is a broken stone door, beyond they see a short section of corridor and then a section of natural cave.  It smells bad that way.  Behind another door is the hissing.  The remaining door is iron and has a key hole.  The key from the Basilisk fits.

They enter and find a dusty room.  Within is a set of ten crates each holding five glass bottles.  The crates and bottles have writing in the now familar unidentified script. Kethry can see most of the bottles are filled with magical liquids of various sorts.  Akadum and Dolin each gather two of these bottles.  Also in the room are shelves filled with alchemical lab gear (beakers, alembics, etc.) and a chest.  The chest is not trapped and unlocked.  Opening it reveals gold coins and some gems.  The coins feature the same unidentified sript.
